Citizen Involvement and Communications

In addition to the extensive citizen involvement effort that produced the PDX Master Plan, there are ongoing programs to keep the public involved as planning work proceeds. These efforts include:

  • LUAC – the independent Land Use Advisory Committee will be tasked to review new PDX facility development programs.
  • CUMPWG – the independent Conditional Use Master Plan Working Group was tasked with advising the Port on the content of its conditional use permit (see Current Follow-on-Work Efforts for details about the permit)
  • CNAC – the Citizen Noise Advisory Committee monitors and works to mitigate noise in the neighborhoods around PDX.
  • AIR – the independent Air traffic Issues Roundtable is part of the City of Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement. AIR is the citizen group most closely involved with the Master Plan follow-on work.
  • Monthly Port Commission meetings – the Port of Portland Commission is the organization´s ultimate decision-making body. All major decisions concerning the development of PDX are open to public discussion in these forums. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at Port headquarters in Portland´s Old Town district.
  • Airport 101 – a class held periodically to educate the public about what is happening at PDX. It is a hands-on course taught by Port aviation staff.
  • Community forums – periodically, the Port holds open-house-style community forums to inform the public about PDX activities and to allow open critiques of projects and proposals. These are held throughout the Portland metro area.
  • Speakers Bureau – Planning staff also serve as guest speakers at local community group meetings, such as the Rotary or Columbia Corridor Association.
  • Newsletters/Web site – additional information about the PDX Master Plan is available through the Port´s Web site (flypdx.com), as well as various community newsletters.
